The house was stripped bare down to the framing in all directions. New wood floors where vinyl was before were finished at the same time as the old wood, creating a unified look throughout. We replaced the window in the family room with a french door opening to the backyard and raised the hallway openings to go from cramped to comfortable. Custom built-in's from Artisan Custom Bookcases of Buck's County PA and stonework surround the working fireplace. The foyer powder room was completely removed and turned into a hallway that connects the kitchen, dining room, and entry together. Oversized Porcelenosa floor tiles flow from the entry through the kitchen and complement the stone patio, tying indoors and outdoors together. We carved out space for a coat closet in the foyer that also holds the home audio system. Speakers were installed in the kitchen and dining room ceilings as well as outside for year round entertaining. We gutted the entire kitchen down to the studs, removing the fireplace that had long ago been cut of from the chimney. A side window was replaced with an extra wide sliding door to the patio. Appliance locations were completely rearranged, with the farm sink placed facing out to the backyard through a new large window. And what was once a cramped and awkward kitchen now has room for a deep Andromeda-granite top island that's used for nightly dinners and the boys' homework. The island also functions as added storage for large pots, pans, cutting boards, and a side book case for cookbooks. In the bedroom, with a tweak to the roof structure, we raised the ceiling a full foot and a half higher. Enough to fit a chandelier!
